Think a Million Dollars Now: Vinney Chopra on Mindset as a Ceiling

October 29, 2026•7 min read

Your thoughts set your ceiling, and nothing you build will rise above what you believe is possible. That is where we started this week on Abundance Thursday, when Vinney (Smile) Chopra and I began the 52 wealth principles over again with a principle called Think a Million Dollars Now. It is a mindset principle, and as Vinney reminded me, much of the year is mindset.

Vinney came to this country with seven dollars in his pocket. He worked as a salesperson and an engineer before he moved into real estate, and he has managed large teams over the years. I mention it because the principle only means something if the person teaching it had to learn it.

Thoughts Set the Ceiling, and Big Thinking Starts Small

I asked Vinney why, if thinking were enough, everyone would not already be there. His answer was that it is not just thinking, it is believing. He said that if you start thinking small, "everything around you will be small," and then he added the other half: if you start thinking big before you are there, things begin to move.

I added something from the work. A big goal is a small thought in the same size of brain. Buying a small building and buying a large one involves the same contract, the same kinds of lenders, the same attorneys, and the same number of things to remember. What changes is the goal you decided to hold. The person who thinks bigger does not have more brainpower, only a larger target for it to work on.

Your brain starts looking for answers, relationships, and resources only after you decide something is possible. Until then it has no reason to.

Write It Down and Keep It in Front of You

Vinney said write your goals down three separate times during the call, so I will say it again too. Writing is how a goal stops being a mood.

He used to keep the same goal on five index cards, one by the bed, one on the bathroom mirror, one in the car. Today the version is easier: write the goal, photograph it, and set it as your phone background so you see it every time you pick the phone up. Some people record a short video of themselves speaking the goal as if it were done. The method matters less than the repetition. In his words, without goals you are "a wandering generality."

Add One Zero, Then Test the System

The next step is to take the goal you wrote and add a zero. Vinney said his coach told him to "just put a zero on the right side, not on the left side," and that it changes your thinking, your planning, and what you achieve. He was careful to say nobody multiplies everything by ten overnight. You move from one times to one and a half times to two times, and the direction is what counts.

I use the same idea on operations. I ask my team whether our system would hold if the number of units we manage were ten times larger. If it would fall apart, we go back to the drawing board and ask what it would take. A system built only for today's size never gets stressed enough to show where it breaks.

Vinney added the part that makes this real. Growth stands on a sound foundation, and the biggest piece of that foundation is accounting. In his own operation a full accounting department of five people made sure every dollar went into the right place and stayed separate. On my side the team is smaller, and we lean on AI to double check and triple check the books. Either way, the work has to be done well or it is not done.

Watch Who You Sit With

The notes Vinney sent for the call included a line I liked: "Small talk makes small lives." The suggestion was to spend at least one hour a week with someone who thinks bigger than you do. Read their book, watch their talk, buy them coffee.

I think few people look at this on purpose. People who do well tend to ask themselves at the end of the day who they spent time with, and who they plan to add next year. It is not only what you talk about. It is who you talk about it with. Vinney said your thinking rises only among people whose thinking is higher than yours, and that a circle of people griping about the world will not carry you to a higher level.

You can also pay to join a room. A mastermind costs money, and it is often cheaper than learning the same lessons alone.

Turn Worry Into How

Replace "I can't afford it" with "how can I afford it." One closes the door and the other opens hundreds. Vinney said that when people find an excuse, a lot of doors close, and when they look for solutions, doors open if you stay vigilant.

Here is a practical way to use it. AI will happily tell you every way a plan could fail if you ask. Ask the opposite question too: what are all the ways this could work, and how do I put safeguards in place so it does? The tool is the same and the answer is very different because the question is different. This week I walked a 42 unit building with an inspector, recorded several short videos, and had an AI turn them into a written inspection report with the pictures matched to what was said. A month ago that did not exist.

Use these tools to prepare, then bring your questions to your CPA, your attorney, and people who have done the work before.

Celebrate Tiny Wins

Vinney's view is that nobody is going to hand you accolades, so you be your own boss and celebrate small victories. When you reinforce what went well, your subconscious performs better next time.

We turned this into a game on our properties. Each maintenance person keeps a jar, and any penny they find on the ground inside a building goes into it. At the end of the month we count whose jar is fullest. Nobody gets rich from it. It is a way of reminding the team that there is money in the building, and that paying attention is a skill. Vinney pointed us to a book called Game of Work, which makes the case for treating work like a game. I ordered three copies while we were talking.

Give Like a Millionaire

The last habit is to give. A kind word, a helping hand, a smile. Vinney said to give without expecting returns, because we often expect too much from whatever we do. Abundance moves through the people who let it move through them.

None of this is financial, legal, or tax advice. Vinney and I were two operators describing what we have learned from our own experience, and your situation is not ours.

The Takeaway

Pick your number, write it down, and put it where you will see it every day. Then add one zero and ask what would have to be true for it to work. Spend an hour this week with someone who thinks bigger than you. When a worry shows up, rewrite it as a "how" question and answer it on paper. If you want help seeing where your own numbers stand today, you can run your own return on equity on the calculator. The tool organizes what you enter and does not forecast anything.

Closing

The principle is short and the work is not: think bigger than your current circle, make it visible, and let the questions you ask change. Before you close this page, write down one goal and the same goal with an extra zero. If you are not sure which kind of operator you are, the real estate operator archetype quiz is a fast way to find out. Another useful companion is the three question test for your time.
