Say It Out Loud, But Choose Whose Garden You Plant In
Most of us were raised on one piece of advice about ambition: keep it quiet until it is done. This week in the mentorship we spent an hour on the opposite idea. When you have decided on something, speaking about it as if it is already on its way changes who shows up. The catch is that the same sentence lands very differently depending on who hears it.
How the Night Runs
The mentorship is a small room built around one book at a time. Everyone reads or listens during the week, then each person shares the one idea that hit hardest. I do not lecture from the book. The coaching happens on what people choose to say about it.
We are in the back half of the program now. The final two weeks turn into accountability rounds, where each person names three things they did well and one thing they want to be held to. If you want to see how the early weeks run, here is what week three looked like.
One thing I say every cycle: it is not about reading the books. The books, the videos, and the trackers are tools. What the weeks are really doing is forcing you to notice what you want, who you are, and where you are going. People have moved through the program doing very little of the homework and still walked away with something, because the noticing happened anyway.
"Had To" Is Resistance in Disguise
A short reminder from week three that I repeated this week. "Had to," "have to," and "need to" are the same word. Each one describes a scarcity of power or ability. I had to because of my weakness.
Swap it for "I chose to." The task does not change. Your relationship to it does. That single edit is one of the fastest ways I know to stop feeling pushed around by your own calendar.
The same idea carried into a conversation about happiness. Happiness is not waiting on a bigger number. It is a decision you make in the present moment, and gratitude is a separate muscle that supports it. Nobody builds a life in the past or the future. It only gets built now, while you are present.
The Impression of Increase
The Science of Getting Rich has a phrase that most readers skim past: the impression of increase. The idea is that the way you carry yourself and speak about your direction leaves people with a sense that being near you means growth.
Here is how it played out for me. Before I had a single deal under agreement in one market, I told everyone who would listen that we were going to acquire a specific number of doors there every quarter. I did not know any particular building existed yet. Saying it plainly did three things. It brought the deal. It brought high quality staff, because people with options want to work for someone who is clearly going somewhere. And it brought better tenants, because momentum is attractive.
It works on a smaller scale too. When your story is that time around you tends to leave people better off, people want to be around you. They may start out just gambling on the relationship. Later they find it is useful, and they stay.
This is the part society talks people out of. We are told not to brag. Bragging and stating a decision with confidence are different things. One is about you. The other is an invitation.
Choose Where You Plant the Seed
Confidence has a filter, and it is the one that most people skip. I used the old parable of the sower. Seed thrown on a hard path gets eaten. Seed on rock sprouts fast and burns out. Seed among weeds gets choked. Seed on fertile ground grows.
Telling people your plan is the same act. You choose whose mind receives it. Once you have made a decision, share it with people who will be inspired by it and help you carry it. Keep it away from the ones who will spend their energy talking you out of it. That is not secrecy. It is picking the soil.
There is a second half to this. A thought planted in someone else's mind can grow without you watering it. That person may tend it, improve it, and hand it back better than you sent it. Your own mind is one garden. The minds of the people around you are extra gardens you can plant in, and one seed can become ten.
If that idea is new to you, write it down. These books give you different things on every pass, and the line that hits this week may be gone next week.
Sustained Thought Is the Hard Work
Someone in the room pointed out that the hardest work a person can do is sustained thought, which is exactly why so many people avoid it. I agree, and I would add that it does not mean sitting on a couch thinking. It means running the thought while you are working, while you are moving, while you are doing the ordinary things. This is where I am going. This is who I am. This is the result I am after.
Continuous thought like that is what turns into direction. Visualize a house before there is a lot. Enough people who can see it will eventually put trades, materials, and months of work behind it. Every building you have ever walked into started as a thought someone held long enough to convince other people.
The Takeaway
Three moves came out of the night.
First, replace one "have to" this week with "I chose to" and notice what shifts. Second, state one decision plainly to one person who will build on it, not to the person who will bury it. Third, keep the thought running while you work, not only while you plan.
If you want to see how far your current position is from the thing you keep saying out loud, size the gap on the goal and gap tool. Clarity about the distance is what makes the statement credible to you first. And if you want a reading list to run alongside all of this, start with the Foundational 5.
Announce the decision. Pick the garden. Then keep the thought alive long enough for someone else to help it grow.

Inside the Alchemist Nation Mentorship
The mentorship runs on a book, a small room, and a standing assignment. We read, everyone shares what landed, and the coaching happens live on the words people use. If a working room like that is what has been missing, you can see how the program works at alchemistnation.com/mentorship. Bring one decision you have been keeping quiet and an honest answer about who deserves to hear it.
